Hi Marty,
Many years go after a major death in the family, I experienced debilitating anxiety attacks. I was very young and had no idea what they were - I thought I was having a heart attack, which only made me more anxious.
Two things helped me:
Believe it or not, grooming my horse in a rhythmic, mindless way. It made me totally relaxed and does so to this day. Whenever I am a bit stressed, my horse's coat looks amazing!:)
The other thing that really helped was a remark by someone that anxiety is not fun, but it's normal. Once I realized that everyone feels anxious at one time or another, for some reason that made the anxiety attacks go away!

How are you affected?

Hi, Barbara. I went through panic attacks since high school, but I didn't know what they were at that time. After 9/11 happened I went into a serious meltdown and panics. I got to a counselor, and also my doc put me on Paxil. It helped alot. Then, after my Mom died and I fell in the haybarn and needed shoulder replacement, well, I started having major meloncholic depression. It seems like 3 months a year, not all clumped together, I am pretty much a zombie. My new doc recently upped my Paxil and it seems to be helping. He said if the dose is right I will keep from going into another depression. I sure hope he is right. I feel good at the moment, anyway.
Yeah Marti--your medicine is helping you. Way to go!
Thanks, kiddo!
