Do you feel like you almost have to start all over again with your horse, after you are in a prolonged depressed or anxious phase? I do! What helps the most? I find taking my mare for a walk helps us get back in sync.

Grooming... and Joining up. I hope you feel better soon..
Thanks, Jenn. And I am feeling better. Just need more energy!
Had a wonderful, peaceful ride today, through the changing fall colors and with one of my best riding buddies. We each bring one of our dogs. The horses were peaceful and loving life, too.
that sounds so nice... i can't wait till I do that. :)
hopefully with my new diagnosis of bipolar and my new meds, my doc says I should not get these deep depressions anymore. Just lifes usual ups and downs.
Hi Marti, Your doctor is right. With the right medication bipolar is a very treatable illness. In my practice I work with clients who struggle with issues that have become inextricably entangled with their personalities. It takes years of therapy to sort out these issues. From a professional perspective,(given that you are medication compliant) bipolar is usually pretty straight forward to treat.
My advice to you is to be honest with your Doc about the intensity of your co-occuring problems(if any), ie, anxiety, ADHD, OCD. Doc's can't medicate what they don't know about and often it takes years to fine tune meds. just because of communication glitches. Laura
I just recently got a new horse. My Morgan mare was too spirited and too much horse for me. I lost all my confidence when I fell off when she spooked from a llama . She was scared toooo death of this big male llama. He came up spitting and huffing, and she wanted outa there. I tried controlling her and she was too scared. I fell off into manzanita bushes and rocks. Luckily I didn't get hurt.
