CQHA & Equine Canada Director at Large Laurie Haughton, had a meeting on January 31, 2010 with a small group of Quarter Horse owners who compete at Training and Bronze level shows with their registered Quarter Horses in Ontario.

Some great ideas came out of that meeting, regarding the implementation of a recognition program for Canadian Quarter horses competing in Dressage shows here in Canada. The ideas will be presented to the CQHA board of directors in March when they meet face to face in Kissimmee, Florida, during their annual meeting which runs in conjunction annual AQHA Convention.

Your feedback on this topic is much needed. Please feel free to leave a message here, or contact Laurie directly.

Hi Laurie:  Just wondering if any updates after the EQ convention.  I have talked with our CADORA club here and hopefully can convince them to get the judges for our local shows as members of AQHA......hope I am on the right track here.

Also, on another note I just returned from Portugal and have booked Georges Malleroni (long bio if interested) to come to Canada in July and October this year on Vancouver Island.  I am wondering if you or anyone you may know of might be interested in hosting a clinic with him elsewhere in Canada.  He is a true classical master having trained with Nuno Oliviera for many years in Portugal and at present is technical director at Escola de Equitation de Alcainca.  We had him here twice last year for clinics, and Vancouver is hosting him once a year.  The riders love his teaching and the horses progress throughout the clinic nicely.

Cheers

Hi Elaine.

Congratulations on all your hard work.

Just an update:

In order to earn AQHA points in Dressage here in Canada a show must apply to be AQHA sanctioned and the EC Judge must be an AQHA member. That still stands and will likely not change.

The CQHA idea to have Cnd Quarer Horses showing at EC Dressage shows is still a go, however our first draft had too many holes in it. I will meet with the new Dressage Canada board in the new year to disscuss
ways that we can work together to see that these Quarter Horses can be
properly identified at their shows, so that a system of CQHA
recognition can be established.

That's great to hear Elaine!

At any time any Dressage show in Canada certified by Equine Canada can apply for AQHA show approval and follow AQHA's show regulations to offer an AQHA Dressage class at your show.

The Canadian Quarter Horse Association is working on a program that will promote Quarter Horses doing Dressage in Canada, as well as recognize them for their achievements. We have ran into a few snares with our initial strategy as to how to roll this out - but we do hope to be able to deliver a program in 2011 that will achieve each of these goals - and hopefully in the future AQHA Dressage points will be awarded at Canadian shows.

My quarter horse mare is working 2nd now....she's great. My coach says she is capable of "doing it all". He loves her work ethic and her temperament. Just wondering what is happening with Canada regarding quarter horses in dressage....i.e. earning points, etc.
