Does anyone here jump their dressage horse? If so, how often and over what types of obstacles? Do you use your dressage saddle?

Not for a while, but it's one of my 2009 goals. I've found a great local barn that I can trailer out to, who have a big outdoor for jumping & a full set of fences.

We have unaffiliated mini three day events in the UK & I think it would be so much fun to do one - the fences are only small but you get to do a trot up, roads & tracks etc. So I suppose I had better get jumping again!

& yes I normally use a dressage saddle, but one with a flat seat.
Once in a while ... only because Bear loves it! I lost the joy for jumping after a freak accident, but every once in a while, just for fun, I'll pop Bear over a few small fences -- and usually in my jumping saddle -- and it'll feel really good to have done it. I also free jump him over small obstacles from time to time. He's so much fun to watch!
D :-)
I used to jump my old dressage horse. I used a jumping saddle and we jumped quite a bit. But now that I have a nice 6 year old we mostly just do cavaletti work and some poles on the ground in my dressage saddle.
My dressage horse has recently started jumping. He is leased to a young lady who is just learning how to jump herself. I trained him to 3rd level dressage and he is 8 years old this year. He has taken to jumping very naturally and will go around as an easy hunter. I had a theory about making a nice dressage horse into a relaxed hunter. Seems I was right! He's great!
Here's a picture of his third time over fences.

Yes, sometimes i jump my dressage horse. Bye the way he is a better jumping horse than a dressage horse. I have a treeless saddle. You can only do small jumps with it.
I agree with Katie-78, my dressage horse easily pops over 1m, no probs. I jump him quite oftern and it gives him some viriety (sp?). I think i do better out at jumping comps than dressage. haha.
I do hunters now with my dressage horse. I ride in an all purpose so it works well for both dressage and jumping. Right now we only do 18 inch verticals, and use actual jumps since a friend of mine built me a pair of standards and bought me the poles. My horse adores the change in pace and doing something more than dressage and I think it's a nice change too.
I also believe in jumping any horse sound enough to do so. I think it is part of a well trained horses basic training, to be able to handle themselves safely over obstacles.
In dressage, it can also help with elevation of the forehand, cantering issues, general balance and willingness. Horses like a bit of variety, and my second level mare LOVES to jump. We only do 2 to 3' humter type fences, but she has been helped by it, and enjoys it.
I do use a jumping saddle, for proper balance for me, but will do raised pole work or cavaletti in the dressage saddle.
I also hack out, have a gallop in the fields and go exploring down new trails whenever I can.
My boy does both. He is trained well into FEI dressage and has jumped in competition to 3'9" and under saddle to 4'6". Ended up getting titles as HOTY in both disciplines.

He does prefer the jumping though and all the impulsion I have to work hard to get just comes oozing out when he is aimed at a jump. LOL
