Hi, my name is Mary McGuire Smith, and I am based in Vero Beach, Florida, and Mentone, Alabama (USA).
I used to go every year to train in Europe from 2000 thru 20006, but then the euro/dollar ratio went so sky-high that not only was it too expensive to travel there for training, but I re-thought my position on buying horses from Europe and importing them! I would love to share my experiences in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, and Slovenia if anyone cares to hear, as well as discuss the travel/horse-buying trends based on the economy! I look forward to discussions!
Thanks, everyone! (I also posted this to the wall, but then realized that was probably not the best place, so I copied it to here in the hopes that it would generate some discussion!) http://www.iride.at <~~~this is my website

Hi Mary,
I would be very interested in your travels in Spain. Where did you go?
Hi Katherine,

I went to Carmona to a riding stable that is sponsored through Cross Country International...they are one of the biggest equestrian travel agencies. A client of mine actually set up that particular trip, and it was more of a vacation than training, although the owners of the farm were very accommodating and knowledgeable.
Spain is a GLORIOUS country, and I lived there for three years when I was a small girl, and actually, my first riding experiences were on a cute little grey burro named Loli. Whatever equestrian vacation you choose should be well worth it as long as you investigate all the aspects of the trip beforehand and make sure that the specifics are right for you!
I would love to hear about your adventures when you get back, and if there are any other questions I can answer, I will be more than happy to! I can also suggest side-trips if you have time in your riding schedule! Sevilla is one of my favorite cities, and of course, Jerez for both the horses AND the sherry vineyards (assuming you are of age, of course! LOL)
