Hi Mary, You could look on U-Tube, lots of Parelli things there so you'd probably want to search Parelli Liberty, or go to Parelli.com and when you are on parelli.com they offer a free CD that shows various things you can do with Parelli . If you can get her to lunge without the lead line attached that is a great beginning to some fun stuff. My Cash won't do it in the arena if their is others in there either cause he's just too distracted. I guess that's part of the challenge and where we need to grow and progress. But it's so neat to be able to get them to change gait and reverse direction without anything attached. Now I need that communication and cooperation while in the saddle...more work and progress to be made. I love it! Curious what YOU think?

Shirley, I haven't seen the Liberty work that you mentioned. Our young horse was started with some Parelli training. She will lunge without the line most of the time but when there are others in the arena, we have to use the line. Even just holding the whip hurts my shoulders in minutes. I rode yesterday for about 15min. but did very little trotting. I never had lessons as a kid and never learned to post, so I'm trying to learn now, hoping it will help. I'll see if I can find it on the internet. Thanks!

I am wondering if anybody has researched the pain relieving properties of horse sweat &/or dander. This morning I woke up with wandering pains, first my hand, then my opposite thigh, then my upper arm, etc.. Then I got to the stable and around the horses, and my pains went away until I got back home. Just think, for a pain reliever this good someone could make a lot of money selling it. Of course horses are addictive, so I do not know of this equine pain reliever would be addictive, but hey, there are worse things to get addicted to in life!
I hope everyone is enjoying their horses, either riding or on the ground, or at least enjoying someone's horses! Best mental and physical therapy in the world, being around horses. Doctors really need to get back to prescribing this, they used to in the Victorian age.

Gisella, if you ever realize you'd like to edit something in the comment wall boxes, You have 15 minutes from posting time to do so. All you have to do is click in the posted box and it will go into edit mode and then when you are done 'fixing' you can click SAVE (I think) and it will repost it corrected. But, I think generally most people just over-look the little stuff.
"Life's too short to get stressed over the little stuff~~Eat a Cookie" is a great motto in my opinion but I'm on a new food plan LOL I'm in trouble now. Cash's mom

Hi Mary!! Welcome to the group. Have you ever seen the Liberty work that Pat Parelli promotes? It might be something you would really enjoy. You mention you can only handle the lunge line and whip for abut 15 minutes and that would be a good amount of time to spend learning the steps to get to Liberty. For me teaching my horse just to back and come forward to me and sidepass and circle front and back with hand cues was excititng and heartwarming. and my horse likes communicating in that way too. There are many ways to view some of this but probably UTube would be easiest. If you'd like to see some and need help finding any clips, I'd be glad to help. He has one lady in Europe that does everything from her golf-cart type thing and she even has her horses running along side of her (her in cart~horse free) doing beautiful maneuvers. It always leaves me in awe and touched to the core when I watch her with her horses. She has put in much time to get to this point but everyone starts somewhere and smaller results don't usually take very long. It really didn't take a long time to get my horse to circle me at walk, trot and canter (like lungeing) and reverse direction and do transitions and stop on a dime and turn and face me~~~~~with no lead line attaching us. I Love it! You might too...........
Have a great day! We have a holiday here but I'm just chillin and enjoying my husband having some extra time at home and it is cool so I can go to the barn and really enjoy the lack of sweat! Hope to hear back from you.

Hi everyone. I think this is great too. I love being with our horse and doing what I can with her. I haven't attempted to trot yet with her, I don't think my body could take it for very long. I love walking her, brushing her and doing groundwork too. (holding the lunge line and whip is very hard on my shoulders but I stick with it for as long as possible-15min.) Mostly our daughter does the riding with her.

Hi, Really good idea to start this forum Jackie. I'm not disabled myself, but I'm an occupational therapist and I have a particular interest in equine assisted therapy. I know what being around horses has meant to me over the years and I'm really amazed at how horses can help with 'healing' people.

Thanks Jackie! I am not riding my horse Cooper yet. I have had to cut back on lessons also for financial reasons. Now of course my body is feeling worse. It will be so exciting when we finally are able to ride off into the sunset together LOL
Hi Cat, I know what you mean about the difference in yourself. My family has noticed the change in me. Last night I wasn't feeling well, leg and back was hurting. I went to see my horse Cooper and did some natural horsemanship with him and felt so much better after, mentally anyway, he lifts my spirits when I feel like I have had enough.

Hi all,
I've been a little behind on my visits here, things have been a bit up and down.
Riding has been pretty good for me. I find that being with the horses is so theraputic and makes me feel better in myself and has made a huge difference to me that my family have noticed a difference in me.

Welcome Coopersmom 1958!
Your bay horse looks like a sweetie.
Not only is walking the best therapy, it gives me plenty of time to learn to coordinate my aids. There is so much basic schooling you can give yourself and your horse at a walk. I work on three speeds at a walk, turning, halting, just in general getting the horse to understand my language. In the heat when I am so uncoordinated it is the safest gait for me and the horse.
Enjoy riding your horse!!!
