Statement from Dressage Canada:

Ottawa, ON -- Dressage Canada regrets to inform the dressage community that it has been unsuccessful in its bid to retain the services of Team Technical Coach/Advisor Robert Dover beyond the one-year contract that expired October 15, 2010.  While efforts have been made over the past several months to extend this contract, the two sides have been unable to reach an agreement for this position due to financial constraints and time commitments.

Dover has done a formidable job as Technical Coach/Advisor, working tirelessly in support of the Canadian Dressage Team. He was instrumental in their success on the European Tour, and best ever placing at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.  In addition to this, Dover conducted clinics for Dressage Canada for listed riders nationwide.

There are currently efforts underway to maintain Dover on a consultant basis, which is welcomed by riders given the forthcoming 2011 Pan American Games and 2012 Olympics. Canada's athletes are welcome to contact Robert privately for any help or coaching in the future.

Let's hope there is more info for the public than the uninformative and overused statement of "we were unable to reach an agreement" !!!!!
Politics wins out again over sanity and logic.
I agree Elaine with your statement - too many "camps" - too much dissention - too many egos to deal with -too many "philosophies" .... too may of all the wrong things, and not enough of the right things....nothing worse than a "committee" trying to reach an informed, rational decision on coaching nd training..... Canada will never reach the top in dressage with these kinds of issues....a "team" coach like Robert Dover is exactly what Canada needs, and will never get, if the politics of dressage and training continue the way it is and has for many years.....as far as money, where does the money come from for jumping???. I'm sure there are ways to find it.....I also hadn't heard that Robert Dover was asking for $250,000 a year.....must have missed that. If we want to be the best, we need the best...money aside.
Where does the money come from for the Cdn jumping team? Its been my experience that if you want the best, you have to be prepared to pay for the best. If Canada wants our Olympians to place in the top 10 regularly in Dressage, then they will have to find a way to fund it, just like any other elite sport. What about BMO for instance. Good grief, the banks rake in millions of dollars each from us on a yearly basis....perhaps they would be interested in giving some back in the way of grants.....don't have a definitive answer. I am disappointed that we are letting a true leader for our Canadian elite equine athletes get away....
