Hi guys!
Just want to let everyone know i have a pink 42" winter blanket for sale. We bought it from someone and they told us it was a 44 or 46" but it's not and it doesn't fit the mini we bought it for. and it doesn't fit any of our other guys. I'm asking $40 for it. It's in perfect condition, no rips or discolouring.
Hi Matthew, I am curious what is behind your comment only because I first thought that it may not be a good fit but after researching it - found that the mini's that are doing this work are quite natural at it, in some cases even moreso than the guide dogs...
my concerns were: turn out, solitude and following to be sure the horses were in good care and emotional wellbeing. they will not give a guide horse to a blind candidate unless they are willing to go through training with the horse, they have adequate turn out space & shelter, and will take a "companion" mini to be in pasture with. so no city dwellers are able to have one. the horses are owned by the foundation and will be returned to them at the end of their duty for retirement, or if anything comes up in course of service that would qualify as "not working out". as for the nature - Janet explained that they excell at this work (not all) because of their intuition, and natural desire to "protect and serve" their herd.
I would like to hear your thoughts as i am open to all sides...what makes you say "against their nature"
Curious,
CC
We had a great time talking with Janet Burleson, founder of The Guide Horse Foundation. She really has thought of every aspect to the use of Mini's as guide horses for the blind.
The program runs completely on donations, and volunteers - so help spread the word.
The best part is that TGHF is the owner of the Minis for their lifetime and "loans" them to the blind. This way they always have a home - no matter what. I was very impressed. For more information or to help see: www.guidehorse.org

I live in Toronto but all my family (as well as my aunt and uncle's Morgan Farm) are in St. Thomas, just south of London. I'm hoping to see them soon. Maybe I can make a day trip. I'll give you a shout and let you know.
