Hi Guys,
My paint mare is turning six this spring so it's time to think about putting her in a "big girl" bit. We just started working on reining last year and she really has caught on quickly - she loves it. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on making the switch to the shank bit. Is it best to return to basics in the new bit? Should I ride in the shank only sometimes and still use the snaffle primarily for schooling? She has very solid basics - lateral flexsion, some collection (still developing), light response to leg aids etc. I've done all her training myself and I always feel this way when going to the next level - I don't want to wreck her. Thoughts?

what type of bit did u have in mind? I personally use what is called a BL reiner I find that it is not severee. I still use my snaffle at times I love to keep her soft but for showing I have moved my horse up to BL reiner (BL is for Bob loomis) it is not too expensive and it does not pinch
