Here's another pic from a pulse & resp check. In NATRC ctr before they do your pulse the horse has a 10 minute rest period and most riders want to get their horse as calm and quiet as possible to drop the pulse. I have my hand on Amira's nose as when I gently stroke her that she relaxes so much she just about falls asleep.
