A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
I have two horses, an arabian mare and a thoroughbred mare. I compete in competitive trail and endurance riding with my arabian mare.

I love nothing more than sharing time on the trail with good horses and good friends. Also love horse camping, reading and surfing the internet.

I'm married to a wonderful man and have two stepchildren who occasionally ride with me.

Do you have any pets?
a dog Bear, A cat Sylvester and of course my horses Amira (arabian) and Gypsy (thoroughbred)

For those of you that trail ride...what item can you absolutely NOT LIVE WITHOUT in your saddle bags?

What item can you absolutely NOT LIVE WITHOUT in your saddle bags?

I have two...CHAPSTICK and a small bottle of insect repellent that can be used on either horse or human!

There are LOTS of other things in my saddle bags...but they I can live with out them. I keep my knife and cell phone on my body as may need either if seperated from the horse.

But can't stand chapped lips or mosquito bites.

What are your on trail MUST HAVES?

Itching to get back into the competition saddle...

Friday, October 24, 2008

Well, sort of at the last minute (and with my hubbys blessing as diesel prices are dropping) I have decided to go and compete in the NATRC Region 4 LAST CHANCE at the OK Corral CTR next weekend in Stillwater OK. I went this ride last year as I was "chasing points" and it was the last of the season and it was a blast.

This year I'm not chasing points as it's only the 2nd NATRC ride I've done this year so I'm just going for fun and to get Amira and I… Continue

Cold Front blowing in...FALL HAS MADE IT TO TEXAS!

Well, the winds are picking up and around noon the temperature started really dropping around here, so I guess that cold front the weathermen talked about really is moving in!

YIPPEE...FALL IS REALLY HERE...FINALLY!!!

Of course there have been signs around the barn that fall has been coming for quite some time...both Gypsy and Amira are REALLY fuzzing up and getting their winter coats and I think it's a bit earlier than… Continue

How has the recent economic downturn affected your horse-keeping and / or horsey activities?

A fellow horse person told me that most horsepeople will "FIND A WAY" to still enjoy their horses....but I know it's got to be tough for many of us....we are all having to "tighten our belts" and really re-think things.

Even though fuel prices are coming down..they are still high...especially diesel and I drive a 1 ton dually! But I now just focus much of my riding closer to home.

I am VERY blessed living in the Dallas / Fort Worth area to have at least 5-6 trail systems… Continue

Hi, I just read your comment on amateur dressage, about the diagonals. I thought I would tell you how I learned it. The most basic thing is you have to be moving your body upwards when the leg on the outside is moving forward, your can tell if your doing this by looking at the outside shoulder. If you are not and you need to switch sit for two bumps and then go up again. I found this very affective for me so I hope it helps you to.

I have a question for you now, actually. I'm really trying to get into competitive trail riding with my Thoroughbred who absoluetly LOVE trails and stuff. We're signed up for a ride in November which will be our first but is there anything I really should know?

Hi Tracey--well, I am not in Texas anymore but I did live there for 30 years (College Station); I now live in Walnut Creek, California (about 30 miles east of San Francisco). I still have my farm in Texas though!

Hi Tracey, If you search Carol H in "Find" (very top of left home page column) you can read what she does. She looks like she is wearing a numbered vest - just like you!
There is also someone here who does orienteering and who has trained with a fellow to do horse search and rescue, using the horses to pick up scents. - Who knew?!

Hi Tracy!
Enjoyed looking at your blog, love your arab. I am just getting into LD. I did my first ride in July and loved it.

I just caught your comments (& invite) re endurance ... thanks. I don't get to Barnmice (or anywhere else) much at the moment - its spring here and my horse related stuff is pretty full on.
Its just turned cold here today and I have one newly arrived & now grumpy stallion waiting for his 'dinner' so I can't stay online for long. Anyway, thanks again for the invite and sorry to see its not just an Aussie thing & that you also have people who haven't worked out just how great Arabians can be ... I still reckon they are the original (& best) All Terrain Vehicle.
better go ...
stay well and ride safe.
