Pie is my retired OTTB.  I was his exercise rider at the track and fell more in love with him than any other horse in my 11 years working at the track.  I watched him win his final race and waited for him to join us in the Winners Circle.  But we got a call that something was wrong, we walked to the track where he stood favoring his front right leg.  That was November 2, 2008.  In about a weeks time he was given to me after they realized that surgery would not help getting him to run again.  Our boss let me keep Pie in his stall for his first three months of stall rest while I got my finances in order and found an affordable and acceptable place to keep my dear Pie.

When he was still in training we would greet each morning with a kiss and he'd get a carrot.  Actually, since he'd been handled too roughly before I became his rider, he got carrots for just about everything.

When we were on the horse ambulance going off the track on November 2, Pie looked scared, but I noticed that he was blowing me kisses.

He doesn't get rewarded for kissing since it became his form of begging.  But Pie likes nice people and he likes it when they laugh and smile and he gives kisses pretty generously now.

He's my best friend.
