sounds like a normal reaction for a 3yo to me. You are doing the right thing Cindy , keep taking him out on the lead and desensitize him to the car and truck noise. I wouldn't make a big deal of it. Get him happy to stand as the cars go past…

My three year old mustang is afraid of cars. Well to be more specific, he is scared of the noise they make going down the road (think tires on pavement). Right when the car gets past him, he turns and bolts (thats how we discovered his fear at least - plowed fields make for a soft landing!). He has never spooked like that before. Because of that reaction, I've been taking him out to eat grass by the side of the road and watch cars go by (its not constant). I can tell he would run if the halter…See More

- A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
- I just finished up my Masters of Science in Biology and have begun the ever daunting post-graduation job search (I graduate in Aug). I am starting to get back into some serious riding after placing it on hold to focus on school. What is sad is I am more worried about finding a decent trainer than I am about finding a job! And my worries are causing me to look in more horse populated areas of the country! Not really where you are going to find a research tech position . . . ahh the dilemma.
- Do you have any pets?
- The family has four horses (Mellow - my TB of 11 years, Sly - the 3 year old mustang I adopted last June, and Bambi and Cindy May - two haflingers that used to be Amish buggy horses), 4 dogs (3 German Shepherds and a Corgi), and 4 cats.
