Hi Mike! Hope things are going well for you. I just wanted to say thanks for all of your encouragement at the CCHC clinci last May. That really makes a difference when you are trying hard to do a good job. You know just when to be tough and when to be complimentary. I appreciate that.

Hi Mike, Thanks so much for your thoughts!! It makes sense to me, as it follows the logic of the help i have received from the "horse communicator". The feel i have from my mare, matches your reasoning why and what she needs. From my John Lyons readings, i rode her today and every moment i felt she was thinking of bucking or sucking back, i pushed her qtrs over (as we have practised this) and then sent her forward. She was actually very receptive to this and i had her listening to my leg today! I wore a small spur and experimented with it as to what gave me the best reaction. I feel the positive energy you are talking about, that i need. There is a lot of positive mental energy required to be on top of this!! Regarding my skill level: i am not comfortable having a bucking fight with her, as i don't know how hard or how high she will go. She is still fairly green and innocent and i don't want to teach her any bad tricks, because i couldn't cope. Considering our ride today do you think this was a 'fluke' or with consistency am i on the right track?
I am printing off your reply and will incorporate your suggestions in my next ride. Pardon my ingnorance;
what exactly is a rollback??

Hi Mike, I am a good friend of Barb's and she suggested i e-mail you regarding my horse. She is a 5 yr old mare that has been under saddle less then a year, with 6 months off during that year due to injury. She is 100% sound now with well fitting tack. She has been under saddle for 21/2 months now and she is not interested in going forward from the leg. She is fine at the walk on a long rein, and getting better on a shorter rein. When i pick up the trot she raises her back and goes behind my leg. If i ask again she will kick out and/or buck. It takes a lot of leg and persistance to keep her going and get her through(with help from a well qualified coach). I have tried to throw away the contact to try and encourage her forward but she resists. I feel she does not respect my leg and only goes because she chooses to. I have done a lot of ground work with her with help of a great horse communicator. He has taught me a lot of what you have commented on. I feel she is getting away with not responding from my leg and not sure how to teach her to respond quickly and respect it. I wondered how YOU teach a horse to go forward from the leg? Thanks Janet
