Awesome night for a ride

What a lovely night to ride.  Warm and comfortable with crisp clean fall air. He's so much fitter now - We worked in the ring for almost thirty minutes.  The canter was a clean three beat in both directions, with some counter canter, good contact without curling behind the bit or lifting his head & dropping his back.  He gave me a working trot that I could sit even despite my own physical limitations.  Then he really stretched out and motored on as we walked the track in the fading light…See More

Second level school master for part board - near Erin

I'm looking for a late first level or second level dressage rider, but if you are training or earlier first level and want the chance to improve your skill, please consider lessons with me through Oct & November, in which case I can offer a discount on the PB through Dec-Feb. Longer period of PB may be possible depending on my healing rate.He is just returning to fitness after an injury, a kind, safe 2nd level schoolmaster - just in time for me to go off for knee replacement surgery in…See More

Profile Information

A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
School Master available for Part board while I am off on medical leave - December 2011through February 2012 and perhaps longer. Contact me for details.

Bounce (Whippoorwill Amulet, out of Whippoorwill Locket by Sereno Dandy Vermont) has been with me since he was two. He rides and drives and he has been my lesson horse as I take on select students in the Erin area. He is a 15 yrs old, 15'h and a sturdy old-style Morgan. He can carry weight but to be fair, the rider should be under 200 lbs. I have done nearly all of the riding and most of the driving training, with support from Jan Chuchman and John Lassetter among others. He has been a confidence builder, has worked to 2nd level dressage with some third level moves. He is a longe line master, point-and-shoot over fences, a safe hack (he does water!) and a kind guardian of timid folk - equine or human. Quiet, sane, but no deadhead - his rider must have some riding experience.

I've been riding for decades - recreational trail as well as driving for ten years, also did western, hunter jumper and dressage since the early 90s. I'm an insured instructor and have been offering lessons to a select number of students on a part time basis for the past few years.

I got the Morgan Horse magazine back in the middle 1960's for one year.  I decided to fall in love with Arabs (for one thing they were still showing natural back then) but I've always liked Morgans.  I like what I saw of Wh. Duke's disposition in the ads, so different from the fire breathing show horses!

Mary Jean Vasiloff was very kind to me when I wrote her, answered questions and she sent me her calender.  I also love her book "Alone With Your Horse", still got it somewhere in my piles of horse books.

I am so glad that Morgan breeders are saving the old Morgan type.  I think it was Reese who brought in the Saddlebred lines, after messing the Morgan up he went to run Kelloggs Arabians in California and also changed the Arabian from the foundation conformation, it was not Saddlebred enough for him!  I wish that guy had kept out of both breeds, we'd have a lot more small, compact, food-efficient and sane horses around instead of imitations of fire breathing dragons!
