vineyridge commented on William Micklem's blog post 'William Micklem says WILL WE FACE FACTS REGARDING DRESSAGE AND JUMPING'
Just had something to throw in the discussion. There has been some very interesting Australian scientific research on horse vision. As I recall, one finding is that a horse who is truly on the bit in dressage mode is essentially blind because of…

I researched the Third and Fourth level dressage tests by going to this rather wonderful site: http://www.dressage.net.au/natestdia.html#usefdiagrams The eventing test and the Fourth Level tests are very similar. Perhaps dressage has gotten easier…

Um, the 2009 4* dressage tests are definitely 4th level and possibly higher, since they call for multiple flying changes on loops of the arena. In fact, they incorporate all of the 4th level requirements and then some. This is test A and this is…

This will be a rather disconnected comment, but it goes along with what Jackie Cochran has been saying. I own a number of books from old cavalry instructors. One set of books that I have is the last (1935) U.S Cavalry Manual that condensed years of…

I would like to talk with you about the Multi Bridle because I probably will be buying one for a young horse. Unfortunately, the message function won't work unless I "friend" you, and that seems unnecessarily intrusive. And I…

I tried to link to the pedigree of my old man, but it didn't work. His Jockey Club name is Easter Spy.

I also love to see the connections between my horses and the great TBs. My old man is a son of Mount Hagen and he has a, to my thought, great sport horse pedigree. He raced, not very successfully at the end, and then went on to be a show horse and…

Couple of things. A sport horse pedigree expert once told me that she believed that not a single WB in existence, except possibly some trakehners, did not trace back in the sire line to a TB, no matter how far back you have to go to find one.…

Just noticed, as further proof of Wild Risk's importance in event horse breeding that Ringwood Cockatoo is sire line Wild Risk through Worden/Devon/Peacock. I hope you don't mind, but I regularly save your blog posts, as they clearly…

The native American Breeds are things like the Morgans, the American Saddlebred, the American Standardbred, and the American Quarter Horse. All have used substantial amount of TB in their creation, but all have ended up in different places. All…

Excellent series. You have expressed very well what many of us believe. The thoroughbred is essential to sport horse success. The European WB industry is well organized and well marketed and dominate the world's governing bodies. They are the ones who say that chasing success is irrelevant to competitive jumping success.

There is a saying in the US, "Courses for Horses, and horses for courses." The people who control course design will also control the type of horse that is needed… Continue

What did I find? A half bred short stepping less than pretty mare! Still trying to find out how she was bred. Complimented you are downloading blogs...do suggest to others that they might be of interest to read. Thank you again. William

Thank you so much..don't know where Able Albert came from..I even had a picture of Stan the Man included but if was too blurred...have been away so apologies for not replying re Sky Boy...a wonderful sire who stood only ten miles from where I used to live, where they now stand Ghareeb...Sky Boy is grandsire of two half bred sires but no sons as far as I am aware...when he was standing few in Ireland thought of breeding stallions as there was a culture of thinking all stallions were dangerous...now that has all changed and there are numerous warm blood stallions jumping..in addition most stallions only made a name for themselves, positive or negative, at the end of their lives because of poor record keeping and assessment of sires. We know Mr P very well in Ireland as the sire of Miswaki, the dam of this years top classic horse Sea the Stars and the top sire Galileo ...see this link below...I find this site brilliant and 100% accurate unlike the sport horse records..thank you again and apologies for delay in response...William
