Freestyle to Music Clinic Report

How many times have you been driving down the road with the radio on when you've heard one of your favorite songs and thought, 'That would make a great dressage freestyle'? Or, how many videos have you seen of darling children on sweet ponies, in costume, riding a fun test to a catchy tune? I know I have done both, but then when you watch the extremely complex and polished Kurs… Continue

Tips on Walking a Course with Tim Stockdale - More from Spruce Meadows '09

Tim was able to give me some very important considerations to keep in mind when you're walking a course. The key point is, 'know your horse.' Here are his tips:

1. Look at the course "through your horse's eyes." Specifically, walk the course thinking about your horse's eye line; you need to see the fences as he/she will see them. What's in the background that may take the horses eye off the fence? Is the fence big and bold, or does it blend in with the background? For example, are… Continue

Day 5 - the CN International

The very big news today is the CN International. McLain Ward has been wanting to win this class for years and today was his day. He and his amazing mare Sapphire had two clear rounds as did Eric Lamaze on his equally amazing stallion Hickstead. Ward had to go first in the jump-off and had a clean round that was deceptively fast.

Then Lamaze put in a very quick clean round to great cheering, but looking at the clock, everyone suddenly… Continue

Day 4 AM

Just a quick update:

Our very own Tim Stockdale had a burning fast round in the BP Cup which is a speed class using some of the natural obstacles in the International Ring - the table and a bank. Tim and Fresh Direct Kalico Bay held on to first for quite a while and just got beat by a whisker by Rich Fellers of Wilsonville, Oregon, USA, riding McGuinness. Keep your fingers crossed that none of the last four riders can catch Rich's or Tim's times.

Rich Fellers has a… Continue
