I've been going up after work every night to cold hose Cooper. Last night I didn't say anything to him and just walked past his stall, I thought I was being quiet but his head popped up from eating and he came over to the door and squeezed his face against the screen. Guess he could hear my bones creaking LOL

The hematoma is not getting any bigger now, looks like it has gone down a bit. I put poultice on it Tuesday and Wednesday after drying him and then doing some massaging all over other parts, hips, tummy lift, shoulders. He is still going out everyday for turn out, so not confined to his stall all day. I think he is starting to enjoy the wash stall, he was settling down and relaxing more in it last night. It will be like doing 7 day desensitizing sessions. Heading out after work to treat him again.

Hematoma is still the same size as last night. Cold hosed him and put poultice on again.

The hematoma is getting hard and not shrinking anymore. I sure hope it goes down, I have read how they will sometimes just harden and stay a big lump. It's the weekend now and if it doesn't shrink anymore I will be calling the vet next week. I'm not going to put poultice on anymore either, as I don't know if it is really doing anything.

I looked up the Well-horse, it says it's harvested from the trees in the Amazon Rainforest the same way as maple syrup is extracted, no trees are cut down. It's expensive for a little bottle, just like Vetericyn. Cooper was very good in the wash stall last night for the cold hosing on his hematoma. I had the rope halter on and didn't cross tie him but held the lead rope and every time he took a step I put him back in place. I made several mistakes of telling him over and over to whoa then tried to not do it. I massaged the hematoma as I cold hosed, he was lowering his head and licking and chewing. 2 more days of bute once daily now, I think it's working, that and the cold hosing. The lump felt half the size so that's good.  I took him out to get some grass to dry off as we forgot the towel at home.

With all the products available on the market, I'm surprised how much our horsie medicine chests are alike.

Sore No More, Vetericyn and Corona Cream~ Don't have nor have I heard of the Well-Horse Resin.
Nice that people will share products so you can try different things to see how they work or if they work. Saves lots of money!
Suppose to be best of luck for a speedy recovery...not beat of luck.

Be happy!

Another boarder loaned me her poultice which was Sore No More :)  She told me not to buy any as it will often times expire before you actually use it up, or it dries up? Monday when it happened I put Corona cream on it and then Tuesday I used the barn managers poultice and he rubbed most of it off on his stall wall, made him itchy, and with it a little hair too. The next 2 nights I used the Sore No More. I put Vetericyn & Well-Horse resin (all loaned to me and I should invest in some myself) on the scrape higher up on his neck for a few days too.

With the Bute you could also make him a bra and put ice packs in it! TeHee!
I was pretty sure the Bute would help. Just call me Doc Costigan. Thanks to Andy and Keli and all the time there, I did see a lot and I try to hang around when I know a vet is coming. Good way to learn.
A few at this barn are useing some stuff called, "Sore No More'. It's suppose to be all natural and cools rather then heats. I think "Horse Journal" rated it well too.
Beat of luck with a speedy recovery!

Saturday night the swelling was still the same size and on Sunday half of it had shrunk. It looked funny, it had split down vertical in the middle. I called Veterinarian on Sunday and he said to keep cold hosing, massage and light walking along with Bute for 4 days. If it hasn't gone down by Monday I am to call them again, but I think it will start to go down now. He said it could take up to 2 weeks before noticing anything, so it has already started to go down. I went Sunday by myself and on Monday my spouse, Al, went and did the cold hosing.

I am going tonight, hopefully its down some more and if it isn't too wet outside from rain we had on the weekend I might take him out to play online a little. Depends on what time we get out there.

His feet are doing better now too. They had some awful chips and a huge crack from the dry weather in July which the farrier fixed. Now his toe on his left front is off to the side and he has been stepping on himself a lot. He's not sore though and she says I can ride normally, that is after this bump goes down now.

Is the swelling going down some? Hope so!

We've been here 8 months and no marks but on Monday 2 new horses were introduced and at the same time a mare got loose that they were trying to get on a trailer and was running wildly around getting every paddock going crazy.

I took Cooper outside last night to graze too after hosing him and I watched others riding. It is very hot today so going in the evening again.

Sorry to hear about Cooper's booboo. Cash got a similar kick on his upper front leg about a year ago. Just did the cold water application and it eventually went down and it's not there at all any more. Hope that is the case for you guys.

I think I told you there has been some bickering in the pasture while horses were moved around and the pasture atmosphere changed. Seems to be going better, neither Cash or the other horse is getting new wounds. Hoping that continues but I'm not sure either of them really took the lead. The two mares in there whinny a lot for each other when separated but not Cash. I'm thinking he thinks of me as his herd-mate~Hoping so.

I went out late last night and stayed till nearly 11 and sat in the cooler night breeze and let him graze on-line while he dried from his cool shower. The three kitties came to sit with us too. I love that tranquility.
