To be with or not to be with. The question matters not when there is but one answer, not to be with. Horses, that is. Can't physically care for them and can't financially afford to care for them besides. Catch-22 of being disabled, degenerative disk disease.
I just appreciate my cherished memories of riding. Perhaps one day...a smooth gaited horse won't hurt my back hopefully.

Hey Laura, I'm so sorry about your degenerative disk disease. I have MS myself. I can't take care of horses any more either, I just get too exhausted.
When I started riding again several years ago I decided that if all I could do was walk on horseback, then I would become the best rider at a walk that I could manage. I have done A LOT of walking over these past few years.
Test out a breed (riding) of easy gaited horses before you make a decision. Easy gaited horse's backs move differently than a trotting horse's back, and sort of in double time! My initial suggestion on easy gaited horses would be a Tennessee Walker, but I do not have experience on them so I am not sure about how their backs move, it just seems to me that an extended-out walk may be easier for you that some of the other easy gaits.
There is a Handicapped and Disabled group. Please join us. Maybe if we get enough members there will be more constant action in the group, I know there are quite a few disabled riders on this site.
