First Gymkhana acrylic on canvas 24" x 30"

The first part of the painting was to decide upon what coloured background I would use... I chose a mixture of ultramarine blue and white gave the canvas 2 coats of this colour allowing a day or so between each coat...

This allows me to see any patches I may have missed the first time around

After drawing up the image I transferred it to the canvas using a white china graph pencil...

Next I blocked in the blocked in the helmet, jodphurs and saddle cloth using a mixture of white and off whites to give the shadow effect on both the helmet and joddies.

Lastly I used a very light wash of the same colour to block in the hair directions on the horse.

Stage 2 coming soon ☺
