I have been in telephone contact with AQHA regarding this video.  The horses are being ridden in violations of the rules for AQHA and NSBA for the class and of the abuse rules.

I think that the Western show riders are proud of the way they ride.  In the videos that Allan pointed out the guy said that WP, this type of WP, was the basic training for ALL the Western show classes.  Since it is always harder to train a horse to move unnaturally the trainers and riders have probably spent months and months of training to get this crippled movement, and since they put so much effort into it it must be right and the highest level of horsemanship.  So, so, so sad.  I see one of these WP horses and I start looking around to see if there is a veterinarian to put the obviously dying horse down humanely.

As totally horrible as Rollkur is it produces more natural movement than these monstrosities.

I talked to an older woman at the stable about this and she started getting tears in her eyes, and told me that at the stable she boarded at (in another state) there was a WP rider, that the horse never got turned out, the horse was ridden with that super low head carriage, that the horse had dead eyes, and that this guy thought he was a great horseman and that he was the only one doing things right.  Sickening.  Just like the Tennessee Walking Horse big lick show people, they think they are great horsemen too.

What action are they going to take, what action can they take Allen.

I don't go to WP shows so i cant say Jackie. I have  seen draw reins at one show in the practice ring , just one person, never seen so many doing stuff like this here in OZ . At hack shows you do see people with very short running martingales warming up their horses, I don't get that either. But only berfore the show starts, so there is some ruling against this. In eventing you are not allowed to warm up in any sort of bearing rein at all.

National Snaffle Bit Association has responded and is going to take action against the violations......Integrity for this group!

This upsets me on many, many levels, all this stuff about horse shows.  Its not just WP classes.

Geoffrey, does this type of stuff happen down in the Australia horse show scene?

well one see draw reins and other devices and equipment being worn in almost  every horse related discipline at the warm up stage that would be considered illigeal in actual competition.I also stated things at the simplistic level. The training that goes on at the warmup level is considered very specific. You build your horse up to such a state that it feels you are riding a ball on the top of the circle. Months and months are needed to train a horse up to this specific level and not all horses can accept it. My horse was one of those that just wasn't comfortable at that level. I still have this horse even though this was years ago. He is happiest when he is asked to do something then left alone till he does it. I don't agree with it and so didn't pursue it even though my horse was built for western pleasure, better for me to have a horse that will last a long time and be as healthy as a horse can be for a long time.He is  my prized work horse and helps me train and break my warmbloods.I trust him above all my others probably because we have years together of me pointing him and letting him be to do his job how ever he wants. He ended up doing well in open competition not so well in AQHA.

Mr. Ross speaks out of the side of his mouth.  He contradicts himself in the article on judging and in the video.  Says it ok to forgive the low head if the horse only does on one rail.....they do constently.  Says rhythm is the most import aspect...............and a few other things.....http://americashorsedaily.com/what-to-look-for-part-2/

Monday AQHA/NSBA were notified by email and telephone of the controversy. Todate no response.  On Tuesday I sent a letter to Charlie Hemhill Director of Shows AQHA and await a response.  Oh, on Monday after speaking to Mr. Hemphill's secretary, I received a call from AQHA Judge Alex Ross, the same Alex Ross in the video.  Now I completely understand his effort to minimize the situation on the telephone.
