I have been in telephone contact with AQHA regarding this video.  The horses are being ridden in violations of the rules for AQHA and NSBA for the class and of the abuse rules.

One of the reasons is that they put the pressure on the horse in the warmup ring, ie jabbing the mouth with the outside rein aid.(You also see large spurs being used and also more severe curbs.) Minutes before the class the spurs are exchanged for smaller ones, bits are changed to a milder or legal and the hands become still with no upwards jab motion movementl. The premise is that the horse will be quiet no tail swishing and collected without the pressure of hands or legs.A reward if you will. I showed for a few years in the QH circuit so got to see this with my own eyes.I showed my horse up to the bosal stage 5 yrs then switched him to  hunters. I couldn't compete with all the others in western pleasure as my horse was never as quiet in the ring as the others that were trained this way.

I would be interested to here from one of these people as to why they use that upward reinaid so often? The horses are on draw reins and every one is appling this rein aid to what effect?

Well, the days are numbered for this abuse.  I wrote a letter to AQHA Director of Shows and informed him of the legal nature defined as horse abuse.   I have to give them time to respond, if they do not in respond or respond inappropriately then I shall take the big leap across the chasm.  They will not like it.

Yep, and every weekend there are probably thousands of WP lower level competitors doing everything they can to ride this bad so they can win the blue ribbons and championships.

I read on another forum that the way the WP trainers get that lope is--pass a coated metal cable over the poll, attach roped that pass through a gag bit, run the ropes back to straps on the HOCK and tie the head to the hocks.  Then lope.  No wonder the horses move like they are cripples.

Not often you get to see so many BAD riders in one place at one time!! These people just have no clue!

And the irony is that in the warmup video on Youtube of the Reichert Celebration there is a lot of abuse shown.

I looked at the slowed down lope clips and it seemed like the outside hind landed JUST BEFORE the leading fore leg pushed off.

I sincerely hope I never have to ride a horse trained this way.  Some of those jogs looked rough.

This is the reason for the bad riding and judging.  Even the head judge does not know the descriptions contained in the rules

Was that a lope I was seeing? I don't remember them looking quite so stuck. Is that the new style?
