Leadership, Energy and Horse training

I am happy to share a video clip on my blog called “Free, Powerful and Beautiful”.

The video has been made after I have worked on a higher level on energy with the horses and I have taken a fresh new look at my own leadership skills.

Free horses show such beauty and energy that attracts us. It certainly is a challenge to keep this beautiful spirit and energy when we train the horse, whether we train for dressage, jumping, racing or forest riding.

To keep the spirit and energy of the horse it is essential to evaluate ones own leadership skills in how to keep the horse motivated to perform at its best. We also need to consider the universal law, the law of attraction, which says that we attract the energy we put out.

You could consider our own energy and leadership skills:

- How is my leadership style and which role does it play in my success or failures

- Do I discipline out of anger?

- How do I show how I respect the horse?

- Do I lead by fear or do I lead by respect?

To become a leader horses want to follow it is important to understand their different perso(horseo)nalities, language and culture. A good leader sets reachable goals and have a good ethics and vision. If the horse do not perform well it is solely the responsibility of the trainer and a good leader will not choose unethical methods like doping to show fake performance.

I think good leaders bring out the best in their horses and will not force anything beyond the horse’s capacity. A good leader is sensitive and can read and understand the differences in the horses they are training. They find the strength and weakness in the horse and the build from there.

Some horse people blame the horse for failures and fail to use motivation. They do not reward or recognize the small successes of their horses.

I have worked with horses for many years and consider myself a student so I can improve my own skills. I currently study The Carolyn Resnick Method of horse training and we are just starting the first dressage exercises called Uberstreichen. I will write about that later in my blog.
