In the interest of using my vacation time up before the end of the year, I took another 4-day weekend off with my sister.  We had icy cold weather, very hot weather and weather in between—but what we didn’t have was rain.  We were able to cross the river on all 4 days.  It was great to ride so much.  The horses were good, for the most part.  Cole did get a little funny towards the end of the ride, Sunday, but that is all.  I think he was remembering the day before when his lunch was in his stall when we got back.  I worked him lightly in the arena 10 minutes when we got back to put that idea out of his mind.  I did that quite a bit in the spring.  I think he just needed a refresher.

We even had my boyfriend’s horse to ride on one day.  It’s nice when 2 people have 4 horses to ride instead of 3.  Starry was so pokey, though.  I forgot what he could be like.  Cole couldn’t walk that slow.  We took the lead and just kept stopping and waiting for them to catch up with us.

I have another 4-day weekend coming up for the Thanksgiving holiday.  My sister has to work, though, on Thanksgiving.  She will be able to ride with me the rest of the time.  The weather forecast is trending lovely.  After that, I have one more day to take off—then it is solid working until spring.

We are running out of good weather.  We usually don’t get that much trail riding in December.  I am having trouble psyching myself up for 5 days a week of arena riding both horses.  A few days each week isn’t so bad.  I wish we didn’t have that river so close to the barn.  Once it freezes, we don’t cross it.  When we were at a different stables, on the other side of the river, we rode most of the winter.  Of course, we didn’t have much choice since we didn’t have an indoor arena at that place.

I did work both horses in the arena last night.  I didn’t seem to get much accomplished because people kept stopping by to talk to me.  Sometimes I wouldn’t stop to talk, but continue to ride, but it is hard to pay full attention to riding when you also want to be polite to the person you are talking to.  Then I just ran out of time.  I feed in the evenings 3 days a week, so I feel like I am always in a rush.  I sure wish I was independently wealthy!
