Wow, what a storm yesterday evening.  I am sure glad I have an indoor arena to work in when the weather is crummy.

Cole was uninspired.  I have noticed this happens on very warm days when he has a full winter coat like last night.  Consequently, we changed our plans to a slower ride.  I don’t believe in fighting if I can avoid it.  We perfected Turn on the Haunches in his good direction and improved it quite a bit in his not-quite-as-good direction.  I can’t believe how easy it has been to teach him this.  I never did master it with Cruiser—but then Cruiser has never taken a lateral step in his life.  He is a strictly straight-line horse.

Speaking of Cruiser, he did marvelously at a trot, last night.  Once again, I think the weather affected the ride.  Since it was warmer, I didn’t have to wait for him to settle down.  he trotted beautifully, on the bit, all about the arena.  He is traveling in a longer frame, right now.  After months of trail riding, I always ease him into arena work.  There were only 2 people there (other than my boyfriend) and both of them complimented me on how lovely he looked.  We started working on transitions, straightness and circles.

They get today off for me to catch up on things in the house.  I’m looking forward to another long weekend this week and next…
