Barnmice Equestrian Social Community

The video community for horse people everywhere

Have you ever dreamed of entering the ring on your one thousound dollar saddle, looking as good as ever with your pony round and square? Or maybe having some fun out in the feild bareback, feeling your horses mighty power from beneath you? How would you rather ride? I myself ride bareback more often then I do with a saddle considering my old horse is not very comfortable with a saddle on his back.If you are a good enough rider, than you can do as much as you can WITH a saddle without one!!! So you take the pick. Saddles or bareback?

I love bareback! My favorite rides are bareback on trail on the buckle walking...or a gallop! I love how you can feel your horse much more bareback. It's a lot more work but it's better exercise. Saddles are good too though, but I like bareback better.

While I do love to ride bareback, I agree with Jackie... a well fitting saddle protects the horse's back, and I do use a saddle for the majority of my riding.

I agree with Jackie ... a proper fitting saddle is more comfortable for the horse. For the rider though, bareback is a great way to improve your seat and really feel the way your horse moves. After a good ride I enjoy pulling off the tack and cooling down bareback :)

I pick saddles, as they protect the horse's back from the concentrated pressure of the human's seat bones. Occasional bareback-sure, even for months at a time (a real hot summer, say, or a real cold winter) but not year round for decades. Saddles that fit properly protect the horse's back.
