Update on Sunkissed Acres' abandoned horse - now Mr. America Beau Jingles! - rest in peace, sweet boy!

In 50 years, Lori from Sunkissed Acres has never seen a more thin horse. Three shoes, not terribly old. Feet trimmed certainly within the last few months. Eye removal, professionally done. Wearing a rope halter, still clean. This horse had clearly been abandoned in the bush. The vet and Lori decided that this poor, young horse was hemmed up in someone's pen or field, probably a small pasture with no water or grass - even more devastating considering the recent bitter cold in that part of Georgia. It seems very likely that Beau was deplorably treated in this inhumane way for months. The vet feels Beau doesn't even make a one on the Henneke scale. He would have done much better on his own if he had been out in the bush. At least then, he would have had access to water, he would have had access to grass, or at least bushes or the round bales that all the farmers leave out in open fields. Then, Beau would have been found a long time ago, because he loves people. This is nothing but cruelty in its worst form. They left him helpless. His urine is completely brown, and the vet said it is because his muscles have completely broken down. Not a single horse at Sunkissed Acres has ever suffered like that, even though they easily made a one on the scale and had lost a lot of muscle.

January 29th, 2009 - Sadly, Lori and her vet made the decision to humanely euthanize Beau. Poor, sweet Beau, who would only rest comfortably if there was a human around, who nickered when you approached, simply could not survive the trauma done to his body by the ravages of enforced starvation. Lori is starting a reward fund that we hope will result in the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the cruelty to Beau.
