So, little Muffin had three days off, as I went down to where my pregnant mare was for an extended weekend. We've got her moved to where she'll foal out, her udder is huge (well, for her, she's a maiden, after all), her butt is getting slack...
The little girl hadn't been in a trailer since she got pregnant, but marched right on, travelled the two minutes down the road and came off like an angel. She travels like her big sister, that one!
So, now, we wait and check milk and hope that they can give me enough notice to grab my stuff and drive a couple hours to witness the miracle of our first baby. I REALLY wish that I had a camera available to keep an eye on her (love MareStare, of course).
This little girl came up acutely laminitic at 4 years old, we'll never know why. Followed by 18 to 23 degrees of rotation in the worst foot, depending on how you look at the x-rays. She made it through with sheer will, she didn't know that she was supposed to die. Neither did my Mom (the mare has been under her care since 6 months, it's her baby). So, fast forward to July last year, just over a year from her illness, and the vet says break her or breed her. She's sound, with the ugliest feet anyone has ever seen, and happy as a clam. So, we bred her. She's near to 18hh (which is probably a piece of the laminitis puzzle), so we bred her to the very cutest little german riding pony, to see if we could get some size off of her. We've been waiting a long time, now just a bit more, to see what she gives us. I just want baby and Mom happily, safely on the ground.
Pass the prozac...
