No way that I can find that out for you, lol, it could have been anyone from someone that just liked him and rode him around, or actually trained to re-home... also these horses are naturally responsive due to the breed but also to all the things they are used to just to make it to the races, or in this case train down. His breeding tells me that he was meant to be a good horse, that Kopas had him tells me that he was meant to be a good horse as he has had some of Canada's best including a horse currently by the name of Keystone Horatio. (Rustler Hanover son). My brother-in-law worked for him for a short spell when he owned two top flight mares Delinquent Account and Keystone Wallis.
He could have been lame in any number of places that don't have to show outwardly, and stopped for any number of reasons, hit his knees, crossfired etc. Was he pin fired or was he cyroed??? currently Cryo surgery is more common, but he might have been pin fired. Heck sometimes lameness leads to touching and that too can stop them! Woe is me, it is hard to get them there!!!
Anyway, he is sound enough to do what you want, and he can go cleanly enough for any purpose you might have, so that is all that really matters. If you want to know more about him you could contact Kopas, but he might or might not remember much about him since he has a huge number of horses every year. I don't personally know the man, but he is a nice enough guy from what I understand, he might know who ended up with him when he was broken to ride, or maybe one of his grooms started the process anything is possible.
His mother was a very well bred horse (Albatross/Bret Hanover mare) who made really good money for her era (80 173) she was American Bred. She didn't race much only 16 life time starts which tells me a couple of things... 1 she was supper tallented, and 2 she likely was asked to do to much to soon and broke down, so they bred her due to her quality breeding and her proven ability on the track. So all in all your horse was ment to be a good race horse, but for one reason or another just didn't make it- that is true of many. His life with you is much better and he very lucky to have found you as you are to have found him! lol
I finally got a chance to check out your big fella's tatto number on Track-It. He was registered Kendal Patrol, and at that time he was still a stud, he was born (I think you knew that) on 22 Feb. 1994 http://trackit.standardbredcanada.ca/?op=FR&id=276372&type=F
I don't know if this will bring you to the page or not. So I've pasted what I found.

His sire Topnotcher was a good stud that produced some nice broodmares and a good share of raceway horses. His dam was an Albatros which is high praise in the race world and likely why he is such a nice looking horse, since most Albatross's were very nice looking horses (not to mention great race horseses.

My "Ride to Music" clinics are geared to exposing people to how much fun it is to ride to music that "fits" the horse. Some will do a freestyle and some will just enjoy riding to music for their horse. It's also a great training tool for establishing regularity in the tempo of each gait. Check out my web site www.equimusic.com
I retired from a senior manager position in the Federal Government three years ago so I could spend quality time with my two horses. Also retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Commander one year ago. I'm usually at the barn each day for 3-6 hours. I also travel locally to give my "Ride to Music" clinics. Life is GREAT!!
Maybe we could just put it out as an inquiry on one of the forums, e.g., asking English male riders to post on what kind of riding they are doing or have done.
As for finding the videos I post, I usually spend about 30 minutes each day just checking YouTube, Vimeo, and DailyMotion to see what I can find. Since I'm retired, I've got the time! Great story about your father and your mother!
I just read a bit about you and your big fella, from your comments. I thought I'd send a pic of Che taken today at the Cerro's in London On where we are currently keeping him. My husband Joe is jogging him, with a friend (Larry's son-in-law) from the Larry Fitzsimons Stable (I don't know how familiar you are with racing... Larry has been around for 40 + years).
It seems that people on this site are all ages, and get along really well with the commo ground of horses, which is great to see. I'm 39, you are in your 60's and I see that there are children with thier ponies as well... horses seem to bridge most gaps! lol cheers,
Take care... deb
