A Bit About Me and my Horse(s)
Got involved with horses about 40 years back. Have ridden different natives, polo ponies, hunters and eventers; driven and trained heavy cart horses for logging and field work; worked as a farrier's mate for three years; given public demos on draft work at a training farm. Currently working on a classical approach to riding with some very gifted instructors at a local riding school - the best I've ever been to. Doing the prep work before buying my own horse (my first!) in the spring of 2012, when I retire. Well, when I stop working for a living, and start working at what makes me feel good!

Fearless Ron and Ollie Phippen

According to the old proverb, there’s more than one way to skin a cat. When it comes to training horses, the truth of that was never more clearly shown than by two men I knew who lived on the North Somerset levels. They lived less than two miles apart, but could hardly have been more different in their appearance, their manner, and their methods of horse training. The one thing they had in common was that both were almost monotonously successful at training…

Where it all began

And Tabourba Came Down Like The Wolf On The Fold . . .

Some people started riding on a laid back, seen it all before riding school hack. The kind of horse who is willing to forgive a learner’s clumsy scramble into the saddle, and does his best to interpret muddled signals from reins and legs, as the novice tries to put shouted instructions into practise. A horse who takes his succession of…

Its STILL hot here, and we have another month to a month and a half of hot weather. Enjoy your cool weather!
We often have a day or so of spring in January down here, but no snow falls in June (knock on wood.) That would just give all the horses down here fits, they wouldn't know what to do except shiver and demand more food.

Thanks for the reference to Dr. Bennet's research and articles that you mentioned in Chris Irwin's blog. It will take me a while to read all of her stuff, but the age one is well worth while.
