I ride on bear trails (not grizzly territory). I make sure to make enough noise so they know I'm coming, they'd rather avoid humans if they can. If there was one nearby my horse would hear it before I would, he'd give me about a half second warning, and then he would be gone in a shot. So as long as I can stick with him, I'd be okay.
