August 1914. In the balmy heat of the Toronto summer 18 proud, strong horses were hand picked from the Toronto Police Mounted Unit to serve as part of the first contingent of Canadian fighters sent to the Great War. Only one of the 18 would survive the war: a horse named Bunny.

After watching War Horse, I am glad that this chapter in history is over.
Great tidbit of Toronto's horse history. Toronto Police still have a vital and high quality mounted unit. It is great to see the horses on the streets of the city. Very nicely done Bill.
A very good reminder on how the war horses suffered during war. Nothing romantic about it, just senseless suffering.
