I think the key word is "with" the motion. I think some of the bigger jumps demonstrate a rider who can't stay with the explosion happening underneath him. I think if the "move" is always with the motion, it isn't always going to end in disaster, thanks to the clever horse, of course.
It was the hardest habit to lose, I found.

When you're with the motion, your leg remains underneath your weight, not ahead, or behind.
(imo, of course)
