How many times have you heard "what do you think of my horse's conformation?". If you know llittle about judging conformation, you likley will click the "back" button on your browser. Well that is why I am here with this blog post today!
I was NOT a conformation expert before, but I had some freinds tell me about this lady that had written books and really dug deep into the myths and facts of equine functional conformation. Her name is Judy Wardrope. She is located in the Edmonton, Alberta area. You can visit her website at : http://jwequine.com/index.html
For nearly 30 years Judy Wardrope has studied the top performing horses in both sport and racing to determine what separates the best from the rest. Looking beneath the glossy coats and muscle development, she has determined that function is explained by the way each horse’s skeleton is constructed and how it impacts on the horse’s ability to perform at peak efficiency. It’s a matter of physics – both in regard to the equine skeleton and the tasks we ask our equine partners to perform.
She shows you an equine skeleton, once you know the 7 major point of a horse (Point of Shoulder, Humerus, Point of Elbow, Pont of Hip, LS, Point of Buttocks, and Stifle), then you'll be able you evaluate ANY horse's conformation. After reading her Functional Conformation PDF's (http://jwequine.com/conformation.html), you will see a horse's conformation differently. Anybody can become a Conformation expert after reading these PDF's.
Hope you enjoy them!!
