Hello everyone.
Can someone out there help me? I'm looking for a pony for my granddaughter. The perfect pony will be on the smaller side, any colour, any breed, boy or girl, and any age. It must also be very, very safe and healthy.
In return for light work teaching my granddaughter how to ride, it will receive lots of love and great care. I'm in the Aurora/Newmarket/Uxbridge area but will travel a reasonable distance if necessary.
Oh, I almost forgot...reasonably priced.
Thank you all for putting the word out. I'm sure there must be a sadly-outgrown pony out there somewhere just waiting for a new little girl to mother him or her.

Hey Maureen! What ever happened with your search for a pony? You also did not tell me where the barn you are at is located! Gail Morse
Thank you for your response. Your ponies sound lovely but I'm really looking for something older with schooling as I don't have anyone small enough that would train.
you might want to consider a Newfoundland Pony, wonderful dispositions and versatile willing partners. They are very hardy, and easy keepers as well.
I would return the pony with the heaves immediately.
Thank you Lee. You wouldn't happen to know of any suitable ponies...do you?
Hey there Maureen, the barn where I take lessons has 40+ horses and ponies. But all are used in lessons and shows and the owner is not in the business of selling.
I will ask around and see if she knows of anyone with a well trained older pony.
I would appreciate this and thank you.
PS I'm in Uxbridge, Southern Ontario
Hi Lee
Just checking with you again to see if you've heard of any suitable/healthy ponies for sale.
Thanks.
Hi Maureen
I have not had any leads as yet but will keep looking

Hi Marueen: I would not keep a pony that has heaves. Listen to your vet. I had a call from a woman in bowmanville the other day and she breed and trains the Newfoundland ponies. I don't remember her name but her phone # could still be on my phone display. She was looking for me as I do the sales for a farm paper and she wanted me to have a story put in the paper about these ponies. 905-263-4355 and the name came up J. Johnstone. Give her a try. They are supposed to be wonderful, quiet and love to jump etc. Let us know how it works out. Did you get in touch with Barb Weatherall? Cheers! Gail Morse.
I agree that Newfoundland Ponies are wonderful... I grew up surrounded by them and I still adore the "breed" (actually currently a "type"). However, it would be quite a challenge to find one that meets your needs. They are a rare pony type that still only numbers in the hundreds, and it is especially rare to find someone selling a trained Newfoundland Pony with the experience that you are looking for. I have come across a few weanlings currently for sale in Ontario, but I haven't seen any "experienced teacher" type Newfoundland Ponies for sale lately.

Good luck in your search - the right pony is out there somewhere.
Yes, I believe the right pony will find us but I'm running out of patience. "Hurry up, Pony, we're waiting for you."
