UpReach Theraputic Riding Program. They give people who aren't able to walk or communicate away to walk and communicate.
Not sure if this qualifies for a charity but this is what I'm working on. I'd appreciate any help at all.

Champ is a super sweet 15 yr old quarter horse gelding I took in Nov 7/2010 and now I’m looking for help with a minor a miracle. His old family are moving to Florida and can't care for him anymore but he needs an upper molar abscess pulled. Apparently he came in one day in August with a big lump on his jaw and didn’t want his grain so their vet him looked at twice with no resolve and approx $800 later they placed him with me. I trailered him to my vet right away and she scoped him and found an abscess which also caused a sinus infection.
Since August Champ’s has had 3 flare ups so we have to get it pulled. He's just finishing a course of injectable penicillin and is eating very well, his chewing is pretty much normal and is no longer dropping food. His appetite and spirits are great! He had some paralysis of his lower lip but that’s improving quickly and may come back totally. Worst case, he may have to have controlled turnout in the winter. Champ is 15.1 HH and has just a super temperament, tons of personality and years ahead of him if we can just get him over this hump. He's otherwise very healthy, sensible, sound, safe and would great for beginners. He does walk, trot and canter willingly, road and trail rides and even likes to jump and does it in just a halter/reins right now!. This is a really good boy and would be a super teacher or babysitter if we can just get past this. He’s pretty tolerant of all the poking and prodding I have to do to keep it clean. Champ is truly an amazing horse; he's a real babysitter and he needs someone to help him.
The big problem is that the surgery can't be done here in the north, Believe me, I've contacted all the vets in the area with the same result. The problem is that's it's so far back and if it doesn't come out clean, they have to go in thru the cheek and that requires special equipment plus they may have to insert a drainage tube. The sinus infection usually clears once the tooth is gone. The surgery is done standing and he will need about a few days follow up as the hole will need packing 2-3 times after the surgery to assist clotting. .
I've received a call back from Milton Equine Services and they have kindly offered to do the surgery for a max of $2000 plus HST ($2260) wnd 4 days of follow up care and they'll do it as soon as we can get it together. For the record, I have approached similar several clinics down south for discounts but none have been able to match this, most wouldn't budge on price at all. So although it's open to where we go and I've been quoted $1000-$2500 plus HST for the surgery, it all really depends on if the tooth comes out clean or not as that’s where the $2500 comes from. Guelph is comparable in pricing as they don't want to cause competition with the veterinary hospitals. So worst case, we are looking at needing $2260 and trailering and I am responsible for any meds he needs for follow up here. ie antibiotics after surgery.
I've looked into fundraisers but can't do it because I have a private facility and would have to be associated with a non-profit organization (I’m still working on this) so I’m going to my community for help.
I’ve checked with the local SPCA, no luck with financial assistance however TRACs (The Responsible Animal Care Society ) out of BC has offered $500 towards surgery plus we've had donations ($120 so far) made for Champ from Whinnying For Life, a donation of a dressage clinic weekend with Johanna Bowhuis (value $190 but we need to find someone to buy the spot ) farrier services donation by Melissa Whitmell, ongoing donations at Angelina Tang's Dog Grooming ($100 so far), plus a trailering donation from donated by Erica McInnis and we're still working on it!! MCTV set to come out Friday November 26th for coverage. Furthermore, we now have a Trust Fund set up so donations can now be mailed t o me or done thru email transfer.
For the record, I work 2 jobs and we have 3 daughters at home; 1 in college, 1 in university and one that just moved back home after a break up and losing her job; so the needs of the many really do outweigh the needs of the few but I really hate to see this animal wasted and will continue to care for him. So far I'm out approx $400 not counting feed, meds, time etc but we all agree he is worth it. So, if you have any ideas or want to help please know it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and help!!!

Go Kathy for all your efforts. We rescued 2 TBs and also care for a QH with severely arthritic knees. We must care for those who cannot care for themselves if we can. Am sending a check, not large, but maybe you'll get many checks. Lark Campisano Fort Myers FL
Thank so much, everything is very much appreciated.
We are having a Saddle Up for St. Jude trail ride to benefit St. Jude Childrens' Cancer Research. This is always a good charity to give to since they treat any and all children regardless of their situation and/or lack of insurance.

January 9, 2011 ride at Endless Trails, Prairie Pines, 19201 Matt Road, N. Fort Myers, FL. All are welcome.
Full BBQ lunch after the ride with country/bluegrass entertainment and giveaways. No charge whatsoever but we are raising funds for St. Jude.

Every year the ladies at the barn I board at "adopt" a family in need for Christmas. The families are clients of the Halton Truama Centre. HTC proves assessment and treatment to children (18 months to 18 years) who have been abused or neglected. The Halton Trauma Centre also helps the caregivers/family deal with the abuse. They are a not-for-profit agency and the work they do is amazing! In fact their treatment and research is recognized nationally

Donations can be made at www.haltontraumacentre.ca under the fundraising tab.
The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada near Guelph, Ontario
and
The Primrose Donkey Sanctuary north of Coburg, Ontario

both provide homes for abandoned and abused donkeys. They do amazing work and really need all the support they can get.

Hi - University of Guelph is always in need of donations - the other that I have heard of is for dogs and cats - the Farley Foundation - raising funds to care for animals living with persons on fixed incomes (ie - seniors and/or disabled).

Please send me more info on Champ - I am President of the Uxbridge Horsemen's Association and we are a non-profit association. I cannot guarantee anything as we must vote on all financial decisions - but it is a place to start. You might also contact Rosskopf Veterinary Services in Uxbridge - Elfriede is an equine dental practioner and I can't speak highly enough of her work with horses - 416-433-4070 - rosskopf@xplornet.com - good luck. Thanks! What more would you like to know? He's got just a super dispsition, amazing with beginners or nervous riders. He's just too much to give and I can't let him be put down because of a tooth. So I'm trying my darnest to raise the money to fix it. He's just a horse I took in to help someone out that couldn't care for him and is moving. Champ does walk, trot, canter and in a halter with reins snapped to it. I live in Worthington, just 45 min west of Sudbury but we have no vets here capable of doing the surgery so he has to go down south and it's going to cost $2260 (hst included)
