Hi Jackie,  Thanks for the welcome.     Just found out about this site from a friend.    Keep on riding it's the best therapy for most things.    Good for you.     I bought my first horse when I was 16.  That was 50 yrs ago and I can't imagine life without one.

Yes we do keep on going. I think my riding is the main thing that keeps me going, keeps the arthritic joints moving about and keeps the old brain ticking over.

Thanks for the welcome Jackie. Not sure what is all on here but I enjoyed some of the videos. My wife and I live on a ranch in western ne. I enjoy training young horses and we raise a few colts.

Yeah, I have a friend up the road with 3 pure curlies and they are so stinkin cute.  I can't imagine the kind of pain you must experience, but you are awesome for keeping up riding.  That is therapy for the soul too!  :)

 

Hey jackie! Yes he's mostly curly in the winter when his hair gets longer and noticeable. Summer time he looks straight Q/palo silky golden short hair. Your pics are great. I'm sorry to hear bout your MS :(

First and foremost, thanks for the welcome!

 

My disability is a result of an incident (not on horseback) that caused a fracture in my left hand.  Unfortunately, it was not diagnosed right away and when it was, arthritis had set in and caused more pain than I ever thought possible.  In relation to riding and since my left hand is my "mounting hand", it is very difficult to get myself up on the back of my 16.1 hand Thoroughbred.  I am blessed with a wonderful, steady horse that patiently waits for me to get on but none-the-less, struggling at the mounting block for 15 - 20 minutes and sometimes even longer is creating tension and frustration.  As a result of the same accidental incident, I also had several broken/brusied ribs and manner in which this injury happened has caused permanent pain and the resulting discomfort.  That leaves me with great difficulty maintaining a posting trot and my stamina level will probably never be where it was before this happened!

I joined this group to be part of a community of disabled "horse" people and also to possibly get some ideas and feedback from people that have had similar injuries or maybe even people that have the same resulting riding issues that I now have, no matter what their disability may be.  Lastly, I hope that I can be supportive to other disabled riders  as a member of this group.
