22 Horses Killed in New Jersey Barn Fire

From the New Jersey Herald:

Early Saturday morning, an electrical fire killed 22 horses in a barn at Heritage Acres Farm. The farm has been owned by the Hahn family for nearly 45 years.

The fire, which was reported to police at 1:44 a.m., killed all 22 horses in the barn. Four horses stabled in another barn on the property were unhurt.

"State police responded to the fire alongside multiple EMS units and Lafayette, Hampton, Frankford, Hardyston and Vernon fire departments, but upon arrival, the large barn was already fully engulfed in flames, state police said."

Terrible news.  I started to write an article last year on barn fires, the number one cause is poor electrical wiring, especially in old structures.  MUST MUST MUST have an inspection done and follow the sensible recommendations on how to avoid this tragedy.  Please see this great link: http://www.firesafetyinbarns.com/
