OMG, it is SO HOT and there is a fire burning nearby, UGH
Me and my friend Patti, we play with my horses on Thursdays. She's visiting and my gelding Toby is a love of hers, LOL.... anyway, it is miserable outside, OMG... so hot and dry.... so we had water day..... We watered down the lot my horses are in, watered down their hay, then I sprayed water in their stalls, got rid of all the spider webs, and got the dust down.... they both rolled geez after I had groomed Oliver and got him all slickered up with good fly spray, so oh well.. We are on fire watch and trying to keep the dust down. I also rubbed Olivers nose with a wash cloth to let him smell the dampness. Toby wouldn't have anything to do with it... he was very shy this morning and he's very scared of fires.... I had a good talk with him and told him how far away it was and that he's safe and sound..... :)
I wish the breeze were blowing a little for my guys cuz it's over 102 degrees, but firefighters don't need wind.

It is too yucky, all those fires down in SoCal, and way to near you guys for comfort. We had our fires last year, it was awful up here. Gotta love California, if it ain't the fires, it is the earthquakes or mudslides. So why do we stay? And I am a Jersey Girl to boot!

I feel the same way about BC, and at present we are surrounded by fires. The past 5 days have been very hard, as the smoke has been dense and everything stinks of smoke. The horses have inflamed eyes from the smoke, and I cannot ask them to work and breathe hard in it. Last night we had a spectacular lightning storm, and something up the road from us was hit and exploded (I don't yet know exactly what), and the emergency vehicles were tearing up the road for ages. We have been evacuated twice in the past, the first time for 3 weeks, and the last time for 5 days, and so far we have been spared that experience, but many around us are presently evacuated or on alert. It really pays to have a plan!
At least this morning is cooler, and still, which should help the firefighters get ahead. There are showers in the forecast, which will also help, and which really help to wash the smoke out of the air.
I hope the same happens for the firefighters in Southern California!

Hi Jan... BC as in British Columbia? I didn't know it was burning.... OMG, I hate fire... the firefighters here are amazing..... I have a plan for sure..... but I live with alot of tenants and they are currently blocking my driveway and stuff.... my mood is generally irked and pissed off and cranky and tired of fire..... last night I did play a little with my horses in the still cool darkness and I watered down their area again so they could breathe.... then in the morning it is super smokey again..... we are supposed to have rain? Rain in summer? Only God would plan that.... He has spared my family and my home and I am so so thankful.. everyone stay safe from all the disasters of the summer, LOL.... including hurricanes and stuff.

Yes, BC is British Columbia, and this is being touted as "The Summer BC Burned". I live at the northern tip of the Okanagan valley, which is the only true desert in Canada, and which runs south into Washington State.
I found out this morning that it was a neighbour's barn which was hit by lightning last night, and that we had another strike out at our intersection. We knew the strikes were close, and weren't sure what exploded, but were hoping it wasn't a house. The barn was burned to the ground, but at least the emergency crews were able to keep the fire from spreading. We have another threat of thunderstorms tonight, but not so severe a threat, and rain is promised for tomorrow! At least today we weren't drowning in smoke, so I was able to work the horses, and they feel much better now.
I hope things are improving in SoCal - at least Hurricane Jimena is missing CA!

Hi everyone... well I don't see fire but I can smell it..... :( It is very smokey in the mornings when we wake up and hard to see what is going on...
BC better stop burning soon.... I love it there!!
