Opinions needed for an article on "Riding and the Big Ö"

Hello!

I'm writing an article (hopefully somewhat funny!) on if sit trotting can damage nerve endings and affect our sex life.  If so what causes this?  The saddle?  Lack of muscle tone?  Improper position?

Also,  what kind of remedies have you sought to help alleviate any pain that you have experienced with sit trotting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Susanne

We had a discussion on possible bad effects from the sitting trot last September (http://www.barnmice.com/forum/topics/could-too-much-sitting-trot-be), though we did not get into your specific concern.

My cure to sitting trot pain was when I realized that my pelvis was moving in three different directions at once, and that as a result my left side and right side pelvis go in different directions.  I now "glue" my seatbones to the saddle and faithfully follow the motion of my horse's back.

I ride in English jumping saddles that are around 40 years old (Stubben Siegfried and Crosby Wide Front), and an old German made dressage saddle, probably just as old.  None of my saddles have the modern seat padding since the gel was not in equine use back then.  I just never had much problem with the sitting trot affecting my life.

When I was pregnant with my oldest son, he would insist on doing gymnastics every night when I was trying to get to sleep if I did not do several minutes of the sitting trot that day (I was riding in my Stubben Siegfried.)  This kept me riding until the day before labor started.  I know, this isn't what you are looking for but it is the funniest thing about me and the sitting trot in MY life!

I do worry about the nerve damage being at the other end, with the brain continually bashing up against the skull.

I was hoping you would get more responses!
I asked my riding teacher. She said it was a non-issue, and that the only way she thought it would affect anything was when the rider rode the sitting trot improperly, causing soreness in the crotch area.
Thank you for getting back to me, it's greatly appreciated.
I think you should try this question over on the forum (www.barnmiceforums.com), you might get more of a response over there.

With that being said, I have done damage "down there" from landing on the saddle wrong during an unexpected bucking episode. I'll say that the effects lasted about 3-4months. Luckily I haven't had any problems with just regular riding, but I've never forced myself to sit in a saddle that wasn't comfortable to me (or the horse), I've sat on many many saddles, and I try just about every saddle at the tack shop when I'm there with some time to kill --- I will say, although the price tag on some saddles spell quality, I can't last very long sitting on them because they want to force me into a position where riding for 30min-hr would become VERY uncomfortable. Everybody is built differently, as is every saddle brand, but I honestly think that if you are sitting in a saddle that is made for somebody else's behind, you'll be put into an unnatural position for your body type and this will cause everything to come out of sorts (poor form = poor riding = poor horses etc.), and will eventually not only hurt but do damage.
Thanks for this.  Slowly but surely the article will be coming together.  Enjoy the long weekend!

:)  interesting indeed,  I always thought sit trotting was a woman's best secret to a flat stomach :) I finished my article, as soon as it's published I will let you know!!!  It has been an awesome learning experience.
