The video community for horse people everywhere

Someone made a comment to me the other day regarding the number of saddle pads I own. When I stop to think about it, I must own at least 15 different saddle pads -- two sheepskin dressage pads (one black; one white); two white dressage show pads; my baroque pad in black and gold; three other dressage pads in varying colours; and then about six pads for my flat/jumping saddle. Yup ... that's about 15 ... for one horse ... yikes! And for most of those I even have matching polo wraps! :-0

So, what about you? If saddle pads aren't your weakness, which piece of equipment in your tack collection just seems to duplicate itself beyond your comprehension? There's probably something ... ;-)

Well i have 6 horses, and only two are riding horses, the other 4 are minis, so for the riding horses they each have an english saddle, 4 saddle pads, a show bridle, a bridle for riding at home, and one of them also has a bitless bridle. Now that's just english tack.
Western tack:
3 saddles (one for riding at home, a show saddle, and a kids saddle), 9 saddle pads, 3 bridles for at home, a hackamore, and 3 show bridles.
I also have tons of halters, i don't know why but i just have millions it seems, i have atleast 3 per horse, then i have tons of extras...they just pile up, i'm finally going to donate them all to the rescue we got our one mare from.
I also keep getting more and more lunge lines, i think i have about 5 now, when really i only need 2.

Everything in the tack room just duplicates...my mom and i loveee tack stores;)
Hi I too am a halter collector... I have 3 race halters... 2 nylon (had four I gave 2 away) and two leather halters... one is 23 years old from a favorite of ours... and the other is the one that my horse was bought in with his halter plate on it for racing/showing. This is a small number since when I had a stable I had at least 5-6 halters for each horse!!! and I had mostly 8 to 10 race horses!! And that wasn't even for the show horses... for them I had one for each occasion... that could add up to 8 most times since I never pitched the old ones as I went!! Yikes!!! I never thought about it until I read the start of this thread!!! I'm an equipement collector!!! lol lol
Just returned from the tack shop (one of many in the area ... so many to choose from ... they all get my business depending on what I need and what they've got ... ;-) ) I have added a new plain black dressage saddle pad to my copious collection, but I think I'll be doing a purge soon ... the size of my collection is getting ridiculous and some of them are just not used anymore. I need to find a tack swap or something somewhere. :-)

On another note ... it's time to take the horse blankets in for cleaning. I have four that need to be cleaned this year, plus a sheepskin saddle pad. I love packing away clean blankets for the summer. :-)
Dorothy you make me LAUGH!!! :-D I just had some rugs (blankets) washed for the first time ever in all my 29 years of horse ownership! I am not bragging about the fact that my horses have always been dressed in poo-stained clothing, or anything, but it really just never entered my consciousness that it was an issue! Don't worry my horses haven't had the same rugs for 29 years either! I do buy new ones, but I just don't bother getting them washed! :-)

Gotta go, its the Eurovision Song Contest on the tv tonight (you may not be aware of this phenomenon across the Atlantic - I don't think they count the Canadians as part of Europe, although they do count Russia and Israel so I don't quite know how that works). But anyway, it's supposed to be a bit of fun where the countries vote for each others' songs but it always ends up being a political 'lets vote for our neighbours and make sure the UK don't get any points at all because we all hate the Brits' kind of situation! Hilarious... (being British we just laugh it off and make out it doesn't matter, but really we are all deeply hurt!)...
Fiona ... I saw ABBA win with Waterloo (was it 1973?) :-)
Gosh Dorothy you know I think it probably was! And that makes you even older than I thought! He he he!

Well we didn't win this time but we didn't get totally humiliated either.. 5th place!

Sorry I'm hijacking the thread... I'll stop now!
Okay ... took another look in my tack trunk today and realized that my collection of polo bandages/leg wraps is getting slightly out of hand. I have probably at least 10 sets in varying colours (including three sets of white), alternated daily according to our (Bear's and my) mood. Variety is the spice of life after all ... ;-)
Dorothy, I think it's time for a purge! I used to be a DQ fashionista (even my ball caps had to coordinate with saddle pads, breeches, T's, and polos), but as I got more and more horses to ride things changed considerably. Now most everything is black and white, with a little navy mixed in, so that everything coordinates with every colour of horse I have (imagine fuschia with chestnut!!) without a lot of forethought and management. Now that I always ride in a helmet or top hat I don't have to think about coordinating headwear either...

It used to be that all my trailering gear coordinated with my coordinated truck/trailer, but those days are gone too...now it's a question of what fits whom best.
You could be right, but I really enjoy co-ordinating my gear ... Yes, even down to the ball cap when I wear one after I ride to hide my "helmet head." I'm sure I sound obsessive but I prefer to look at it as mindful presentation. ;-) In the meantime, I won't buy any more polos or saddlespads for a while. I'm pretty well stocked, I would say. Next major equipment purchase is a cooler (and a spare) in the fall and a tan leather bridle to match my jumping saddle. (Current black dressage bridle and tan saddle arrangement is just not cool ... but I do it for now because that's what I have when I'm not using my dressage saddle ... ). :-)

Thanks for your insight, Jan ... :-)
Okay, I'm beginning to think I have an addiction ... today picked up yet another saddle pad and set of polos ... in the most gorgeous baby blue!!! I know Bear will look absolutely stunning in it.

I've been looking for a way to justify the expense and can only think that it's summer time and he works up such a sweat while we're working that I'm doing more laundry and that's hard on the equine "apparel" so that another saddle pad and set of polos will simply help to share the load and extend the life of the other saddle pads and polos we use. (breathe! :-0 ... ) ... Also, I'm thinking of unloading a couple of pads that I just never use ...

There ... I feel better now ... and can hardly wait to see Bear in his new duds. Now all that remains is for me to find a shirt in the same colour ... hmmmm ... ;-)
Have you by any chance tried Horseloverz.com? Not sure if it's cool to post names, but they have free shipping to canada, and some of the BEST prices ever...like the LOVELY new pad I just got in olive green........for $5.[ ends up being about $8 by the time you get it....but STILL !! ]
Found the shirt ... on sale (a third of the regular price) ... ;-) ... I'm a happy camper! We'll be strutting our baby blue duds soon ... :-)
