I've had a bit of a revelation lately with my teenage female students; I have totally lost the role of simply coach and have adopted the role of "mentor" even "role model" to these young ladies. I am 27, newly married and pregnant. I have attained all the goals I have set out for myself thus far, but I was not comletely prepared for this transformation. I remember I used to put my coaches on pedistals when I was a young teenager, but didn't think they would do that to me.
I'm interested to hear your experiences and how you relate to your students. Any advice would be appreciated!!
Thanks

I think for a coach to become a mentor they develop a higher relationship with the pupil over a period of time . Some of my pupils I coach and some I mentor. Not all pupils end up being mentored, and it's certainly not based on a greater ability of an individual pupil compaired with another . It's hard to pinpoint why and with whom it will happen. I don't have a formular for it . It would be interesting to here from a sports psychologist abuot how this works. Cheers Geoffery
