Hello fellow Hearts! I have decided to put one of my horses on all natural supplements. I give Bella garlic to keep the bugs away and soy grain to keep her coat shiny and healthy. I have noticed a huge improvement in her performance and look. I have heard turmeric is good for Arthritic horses. Just putting a small spoon of it everyday in their grain is supposed to keep the soreness away. Anyone have an opinion or suggestion on what they use and for what?

I have my horse on an herbal blend from "Riva's Remedies". She's on the "Happy Horse" mix. There are a lot of different products for specific concerns. I like that it's already mixed up, so I don't have to worry about it :o) I still have to mix it with wheat bran and water, but at least I don't have to worry about mixing the herbs.

I also use the natural dewormer ("Para-Plus", also from Riva's Remedies) on my horse a couple of times per year. I just started her on it this past spring, and repeated it in the fall. I haven't had an opportunity to take a stool sample in yet (best time to do it is 2 weeks after your done the treatment) to see how it's been working. It makes a very unpleasant environment for parasites to survive in.

I was happy to find someone in Canada who has a business like this. The lady who started Riva's Remedies is an animal naturopath. She (Marijke van der Water) also has an excellent book called "Healing Horses Their Way" which talks about all sorts of horse health and helpful herbs.
