This page is dedicated to watching the mares on Mare Stare, starting with the mini donkeys at Half Ass Acres. But be warned....it is highly addictive.

Well just remember, we have our way of doing things and it works for us. It may not be the way you want to do it and it may not work for you. :) We have learned so much and actually saved lives from watching and learning.
There was a hiplock on cam two years ago. I watched in horror as the foal died. I asked my vet ...why did it die? It was out past the lungs...so why did it die? I figured the mare contracting would collapse the lungs, etc. She explained that it could have been the way it was pulled, and even though the foal was far enough out to be past the lungs, the contractions were still bearing down on vital organs.
Then she took the time to explain how to get the hip lock unlocked.
ONE week later we had a hiplock. I told my daughter what to do and she got the colt out. Had we not asked our vet we would have been in serioius trouble. I figure it's good to educate....let people sort through what they want and keep what's important to them.
Well his knee has gotten a tad worse - it is oozing puss now. So we are back to wrapping it and have increased his meds. The vet will be out today (tomorrow) take a look and maybe put in a drain (yuk). We shall see.
Hang on to your hat Patti....we have bunch of mares coming up very quickly. LOL
Hi Heather
