i think it is getting closer to her time....the ringing of the tail are signs of contractions....

She has been doing this for a couple days.  Just when we are ready to run to the barn she will stop.  I figure when she goes we will get very little to no warning.  So we are watching closely.

Awesome info.. I'm buying some.. I agree some just don't go by the book and know what you mean they've eaten throughout and never go off feed?? crazy!!  I'm all about trying new things so I'll give these strips a try!!  Some of them do change color of the milk and thickness but again not always..

Sorry - needed to edit and didn't see an edit button....

She is not waxed, but that's not unusual for us.  Our horses don't seem to read the book on foaling.  They will eat and not go off feed.  The will eat while in labor, they don't always wax....it's like a game to see how crazy they can make us.

The color doesn't always seem to indicate either - at least for us.  We use three tests to monitor how close they are.  We use a refractometer which judges the quality of the colostrum in the milk.  We look for a jump in the number - either up or down.  This morning she was at 2 - tonight she is at 12 - this is a big jump in our opinion.

We also use the predict a-foal test strips which we get at Jeffers Equine.  We have used them for years so we have a hard time not using them...kinda like a faithful friend you can't throw away.

But by far, my very favorite test is the Foal Time test strips.  You only need one drop of milk, and there is no mixing - you just dip the strip into the milk and quickly read the results.  She went from testing nothing to testing one above ready (watch closesly).  These strips have been the most reliable for us.  I recommend them to everyone!!!  Their link is http://www.foal-time.com/index.htm  I only like to recommend things I believe in, so I don't take this lightly :)

no, in fact as ours get closer to foaling they lay down more, I think it relieves them to a point..  is she waxed yet? color of her milk?

any one willing take a guess at when she will foal?

I don't think her lying down would hurt the babe, she seems to just bulge to the side she isn't lying on...much like a very pregnant  human?....
