Tonja seems pretty restless today- not her normal self - maybe she will accomodate!

Charm is not our mare and is extremely high strung. I don't think that's an option but the vet will give us her advice when she arrives.

glad to hear the baby is okay, but what about putting him with charm would that be possible to do cause it has not been that long since she foaled out...would she not accept him as her own or has it been to long for her to take on another mares foal.

We are also hoping that Tonja will foal soon. She has raised orphan foals before, along with her own, so that would be the best solution at this point. We have a limited time frame however...

No, Pearl never wanted the foal period - has nothing to do with anyone being in the stall with her. If you want the replay you will see that she pinned her ears and turned her but to him from the time he arrived. She is a maiden so we have always known it was possible for rejection but never had it happen.

wheres the mom to that lil one on the bottom screen?
Comment by BarbaraAnn on March 15, 2010 at 10:59am
Could Pearl be having problems with bonding because there were three people in with her when she foaled and when the foal was trying to nurse with help the mare was discouraged from checking him out. The colt even seemed confused as to who his mom was.

A mare who has not foaled is called a maiden.
