Thank you Pat. We try very hard to do what's right. We are fortunate to have an exceptional vet who is willing to teach us and learn from us as well. I am finding that alot of people are not as fortunate, which makes me appreciate mine all the more.

Thanks for the info,I'm sorry this has been a tough yr. but its understandable that the more you have in foal the greater the risk. It's also obvious too that you and Shannon are very knowledgable about mini's ! I would feel very secure in knowing you guys were taking care of my pregnant mare ( if I had one)!!!

She is doing very well Rebecca. We will have her back on public cam today, if she remains in. If the vet feels she'll be happier outside then we'll put her outside.

hows charm doing?

They can absolutely give birth on their own :) And they frequently do. We prefer to be on standby and there to assist and ensure that the foal is in the right position.

Tess, Wishy, Striker, Unforgettable and Silhouette were all normal births that the mare could have deliverd on their own. However, had we not been there for Cinnamon, Sadie and Charm, the mare would have died along with the foal. This is why we check for presentation at the beginning of foaling. It's far easier to reposition a foal when we can still push it back in.

This is the toughest year we have ever had, but we are learning that the more you have due, the more issues you will run into.

Heather,I have been wondering- can a mini give birth on their own or do they always need human intervention?

She's doing okay - she decided to attach herself to Shannon and not the foal so that's been hard. We'll see how she is in the morning. So far...so good.
