Looks like this is a camera off night. TGIF was so sweet. She looked over her shoulder to see if anyone was coming and when she saw Heather she just laid her head down and pushed.

Hey all. Thank you for hanging in there with us. I am doing this post from my phone so please forgive typos.
Chantilly had a very normal delivery. I have no idea what went wrong and things happened so fast afterward that I didn't get to examine the placenta before it was disposed of. Her filly was born barely breathing..gasping for breath. I snatched her up quicly which broke the cord and covered me with the blood the foal needed. I wanted to drain any fluids from her, but nothing came out. She continued to gasp for breath .. barely alive...we administered oxygen and called our vet who walked us through reviving her.
she is much stronger but has a long way to go and yes it will be a long night for us. We have to make sure she can get up and she still hasn't fully figured out nursing. We were very encouraged that her suckle reflex is good but it comes and goes so we are using a bottle to try to monitor how much she is getting. She has pooped and peed and she has gotten up on her own.
her tendons are very lax and she will likely need to have her back legs wrapped. Her front legs are also lax but they should strengthen with time....we are concentrating on keeping her alive at this point so other issues will be addressed as they become a priority.
we can't complain..we have had 10 exctionally easy foalings. We will be in the barn until we know she is okay. For now her name is bug a boo. More later...

I am waiting up to go meet the plane at 11:30 but that is nothing compared to the long night that appears to be ahead here.At least the little one has his head up and Chntily has been up by the look og it. Heather and company do do an excellent job of looking after them all.
