This page is dedicated to watching the mares on Mare Stare, starting with the mini donkeys at Half Ass Acres. But be warned....it is highly addictive.

So glad Candy is responding to her treatments. Hope she gets stronger each day. Congrads on Striker's colt. Finally, a healthy boy ! Violet, love the cat friends with the minis...how cute. The cats just need little cowboy hats to complete the "look". Heather, who is left to foal?
Quick! Go look at these horses and their "friends". Hilarious!!!
Heather,
Thank you so much for allowing us to be with you on this learning curve. Think of it as a million streams of white light to the foal, Sugar Babe and you two ladies.
Patti, this is our first electrolyte imbalance so it was a learning experience for us. We gave an electrolyte paste first, as well as bio sponge (absorbs extra fluids in gut to help stop the diarrhea) and Probios (good gut cultures), but that didn't bring her around Our vet came and put in a catheter and ran a bag of fluids. It brought her around for awhile, but not enough. We had to keep her hinney clean and covered in desitin (baby cream) because she was so raw from the diarrhea. Plus she continued to get banamine, ulcer meds, bio sponge and probios, in addition to another med that we've never used before so I can't tell you what it is.
Yesterday Dr. k felt that Candy still wasn't right..improving, but not right, so she came out and set a cath that is glued in. We gave fluids yesteday, gave fluids this morning and will give fluids again tonight. As you can see she is MUCH better and it's a chore to hold her still long enough to do fluids. She is alert, spunky, eating, and peeing. We haven't seen poop today so we're watching to see the consistency.
And in answer to your question, I believe that the fluids had calcium and something else injected in the bag ...I didn't ask, and normally I do, sorry.
We are still watching for signs of colic as her internal organs start working again. The problem is determining what is colic and what is "my butt hurts" or "i'm bored". LOL She's into everything, and I'm so happy to see it.
missed another not been on for a few days dont no who anyone is lol..
CONGRATAS on your 1st colt glad is ok
