Hm... I think she will have a black (or very close to black) colt. Hm... A couple of names I would possibly use if I ever get a black horse or pony are Midnight, Shadow, Black Beauty, Charcoal, Coal, Thunder, and Spartan (from Heartland). Well that is all I can think of for now.

I just posted this post and the last post for fun, you don't have to use the names or comment back if you don't want to. I just thought this would be fun for all of us to share our ideas and predictions.

:)

I wonder when she is going to foal? I hope it's soon. :)

What does everyone think she's going to have?

- Coat Colour

- Gender (Colt or Filly)

We shave their bellies when they are close to foaling.  When the foal is born it hunts eagerly for the milk bar.  Sometime this involves eating hair, which can cause impactions and colic.  It's far easier to shave the bellies than to perform surgery on a baby with a hair ball :)

I saw the ultrasound machines too and am looking.....I thought they were going to be a bit less pricey.  If they are easy enough to use esternally it would be so worth it.

Very true, there will always be times when we need our vets but things like this will be very beneficial!!  They also have ultra sound machines, would be nice investment too..lol  ok, now I'm dreaming..:)

She is reading ready Michelle- no color change at all, which is good.

Yep I knew about the pregnancy tests.  Didn't realize they had announced it already. I'm excited.  Yes, the twin thing is an issue, but there are so many people that don't test or can't find a vet to ultrasound - especially a mini.  So these strips are great.  Very excited.  And imagine the benefits.  If someone can't afford to blood test or they can't afford or get an ultrasound...and then the mare gets sick and they have to decide what type of meds to put her on...would be nice to know so you don't hurt the foal. :)

Oh boy do I know what you mean on the straw.. Hate it!!!  As soon as that baby is dry we're stripping that stall and putting shavings down!  Yeah I'd say with 100's of eyes on your mare, you're gonna know..lol  Card board huh?  Interesting!!  When you get a chance could you tell me more about that..I've heard that shredded paper is great to use, but never heard of cardboard..  Hey I forgot to tell you when I recieved my test strips they sent a post card along with the directions that said soon they're coming out with saliva based pregnancy test.. how cool is that??  The only issue would be twinning, but would be perfect for the mare that you previously US'd & wondering if she could've slipped.  I thought I might mention, for those of you that have mares in foal and no cams.  A very cheap alternative is put a baby monitor in the stall, you may not be able to see but you can hear and you'd be surprised how far they actually reach.  I used these before I got my cams..

What are the test strips reading now Heather?

Sire is a black pinto. Mare is a solid black.  I expect a minimal black pinto...but I'll just be happy with healthy :)
